How playlist transfer works (and its limits)

“Transfer my playlist” sounds like copy-and-paste. Under the hood it's dozens or hundreds of separate matches — one per track — each with the same version, region and availability pitfalls that make single songs hard to match.

What transfer actually means

There's no shared playlist that lives across services. Moving one means reading the source playlist, matching each track on the destination service, and building a new playlist there. The result is a recreation, not the same object.

Why some tracks don't carry over

If the destination service doesn't carry a specific recording — or only carries a different version — that track either can't be added or would be matched to something subtly wrong. A good transfer reports these rather than silently substituting.
